at the fountain, at the fountain
Book launch
13 March, 7-9pm
After over a year of collaboration between fellow artists, mentors and friends, Beck Slack, Galilee Peaches, Darren Tesar and Charles Matson Lume are releasing "at the fountain, at the fountain" in Glasgow for its international debut at Horsepower.
Join us for one night only. The launch will feature artworks from all four artists, 20 free copies of the book (first come first served) and hot tea.
The spectral quality of the book mirrors the artists' shared values and aesthetic sensibilities. It's a marker within community and reveals the complexity and beauty of their aboutlessness together. With the inundation of information surplus, this ineffable aboutlessness behaves as a wayfarer - a redirectory of sorts.
The four artists share a lineage of mentorship spanning generations. French poet and archaeologist Gustaf Sobin mentored Charles in poetry. Charles became an art professor to Darren. Charles and Darren both taught Peaches and Beck at the University of Wisconsin-Stout. In celebrating their unique relationship of generational mentorships, the four produced a book that delineates how they care for one another, flourish together and change in time. They now work between Minnesota, New York City and Glasgow.
Made possible by a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, the book features their artworks and texts. It has already launched at Fogstand Gallery and the North Shore Readers and Writers Festival in the US. This Glasgow release marks a special connection to Scotland: Beck, Darren and the book's designer Wen-Li all studied on master's programmes at Glasgow School of Art.
